These portraits were done from a live model. Although these drawings could be called representational, they are not with the intention of realism. Meaning that I am not just interested in giving you a description of the sitter. For me it is more important to capture and communicate something poetic about the sitter, or even my perception of the moment with the subject. A drawing is different from a photograph here in the sense that I am still allowing the mark making to be apparent. I find the marks of drawing tools on paper to be a beautiful and transcendent thing in and of themselves. These drawings seek to both be representational and a celebration of the beauty of drawing.
